Primary Folk Dance Festival at Forty Hall

Thursday 8th July 2010

Children join with others at Forty Hall for the Primary Folk Dance Festival. Pupils gather to picnic and dance the day away, which makes a delightful end to the summer term. This festival is for children, teachers and helpers only. It is not an open event for parents or the public.

The dancing begins at 11am until 2.30pm, with a picnic for lunch. There are up to six traditional English dances to learn and join, with the caller, in dancing. Each school is then asked to perform one traditional dance from that represents the schools community.

There is a musicians section whereby we invite pupils to join our professional folk band, who accompany the dancing. Pupils learn the musicians favourite, and also perform a tune of their own choosing. The very yyoung just bring percussion instruments to play.

Maypole and Morris Danciing are favourite displays, and any school wishing to develop the art of this traditional style can contact the PE and School Sport Office.
